Opening of Changshu Sub-Branch of SMBCCN

TOKYO, January 17, 2011 --- Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC, President: Masayuki Oku) announced today its wholly-owned subsidiary Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (China) Limited (“SMBCCN,” President: Kazunori Okuyama) has opened Changshu Sub-Branch in Changshu, Jiangsu Province, People’s Republic of China , as part of its efforts to further strengthen its office network in mainland China.

Changshu is a city located in the Shanghai-East-China area which is expected to continue to grow rapidly as one of the main drivers of China’s economic growth. Changshu, in particular, has been a magnet for many Japanese enterprises and a wide range of manufacturing industries, making it one of the cities expected to show the most growth moving forward. SMBC and SMBCCN have already concluded economic cooperation agreements with Changshu and Changshu South-East Economic Development Zone. With the biggest office network in the Shanghai-East-China area by a Japanese bank – six offices, including Changshu Sub-Branch – SMBC will be able to provide enhanced services to our clients.

For SMBC, China is one of its most important markets in the world. SMBC’s goal is to deliver comprehensive financial services to its clients in China, and a full network of fifteen offices in mainland China, including Changshu Sub-branch and Shenzhen Branch which is now preparing for the establishment, is a key initiative for achieving this goal.
