Commencement of operations of SMBCE Amsterdam Branch

TOKYO, September 12, 2011 --- Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC, President: Takeshi

Kunibe) announced today that its wholly-owned subsidiary Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Europe Limited (SMBCE, Chief Executive Officer: Hiroyuki Iwami) has opened Amsterdam Branch in the Netherlands as part of its initiatives to further strengthen its network in EMEA.

SMBC has been strengthening its position in the Netherlands through its Amsterdam Representative Office by providing and gathering information mainly for Japanese companies entering the Dutch market, and also on project finance business since 2008. The opening of Amsterdam Branch will enable the SMBC Group to further enhance its capabilities to deliver its services to clients in the Netherlands and the neighboring countries.

The operations of SMBC Amsterdam Representative Office will be taken over by SMBCE Amsterdam Branch.
