TOKYO, May 21, 2012 --- Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation
(SMBC, President: Takeshi Kunibe) received on May 18,
2012, an approval from the Reserve Bank of India
to start preparing for the establishment of a branch in New Delhi, India.
In
February 2005, SMBC closed its Mumbai and New
Delhi branches and establish Japan Desk within
Standard Chartered Bank under a business alliance between the two organizations
which will now be terminated on the last day of May.
The
establishment of our new branch in New
Delhi will enable us to strengthen our global network,
and we will continue to endeavor to offer enhanced, comprehensive services to
our clients.
