Commencement of Operation of New Delhi Branch

TOKYO, March 21, 2013 --- Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SBMC, President: Takeshi Kunibe) announced the commencement of business today, of its New Delhi Branch in India as a part of its plan to expand its network in Asia.

Commercial banking in emerging markets, especially Asia, is one of our core strategic businesses and we have been proactively promoting a wide range of initiatives with the aim of achieving top quality in those businesses. The Indian economy is expected to grow further in the coming years, and the opening of New Delhi Branch will enable us to tailor our response to the financial needs of Japanese corporations and other clients in India, and enhance our capability to offer financial solutions for projects related to infrastructure development, a highly important issue in India.

We will meet the wide-ranging needs of our clients with the cooperation of Kotak Mahindra Bank, our business alliance partner in India. We also have a strategic equity stake in Kotak Mahindra Bank.
