Opening of Santiago Representative Office

TOKYO, May 17, 2013 --- Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC, President: Takeshi Kunibe) announced today that it will establish a representative office in the Republic of Chile as of May 17, 2013 to expand its network in Latin America.

Chile is blessed with abundant mineral resources – particularly copper – produces many types of commodities and is experiencing robust domestic growth while pursuing liberalized trade policies. Significant investment opportunities exist throughout Chile, including various natural resource and infrastructure projects.

Latin America is one of SMBC’s strategic areas. It established a Latin America Department within its Americas Division in 2011, and already has offices in Brazil, Mexico, Columbia and Peru. The opening of the Santiago Representative Office will enhance the services SMBC provides to clients in Chile, as well as its ability to provide financial solutions such as trade and project finance in a timely manner.
