Donation for China Earthquake Relief

 

TOKYO , May 19, 2008 --- Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC, President: Masayuki Oku) extends its heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the people affected by the earthquake disaster in Sichuan Province , China .

 

SMBC will donate JPY 20,000,000 or approximately RMB 1.3 million to the Red Cross Society of China, and JPY 2,000,000 or approximately RMB 130 thousand to the Japanese Red Cross Society through Nippon Keidanren for earthquake relief.

 

It is also soliciting contributions from its employees, and the employee-established SMBC Volunteer Fund will donate JPY 1,000,000 to the Japan Committee for UNICEF.

 

We sincerely hope for an early recovery of the areas affected by the disaster.
