Fundamental Agreement with
the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Administrative Committee

〜Four SMFG Group Companies Consigned All Operations to Attract Japanese Companies 　　　　　　　　　to the Tianjin Eco-City Project 〜

 

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC, President: Masayuki Oku), Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (China) Limited (SMBC China, President: Kazunori Okuyama), The Japan Research Institute, Limited (JRI, President: Yasuyuki Kimoto), and The Japan Research Institute (Shanghai) Consulting Co. Ltd., (JRI (Shanghai) Consulting, President: Takashi Hirata) announced today that they have entered into a fundamental agreement with the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Administrative Committee (“the Administrative Committee”; Vice Chairman: Cui Guang Zhi）to attract Japanese companies to the the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City project.

 

As China ’s first large-scale eco-city project, the Administrative Committee is developing the Tianjin Eco-City under the concept of environmentally friendly living, energy saving, and efficient recycling.

 

JRI, leveraging its know-how in the environmental business, has been developing an energy recycling plan for the Tianjin Eco-City since February 2009. Based on this performance, the Administrative Committee decided to outsource the operation to attract Japanese companies with expertise in environmental business to four SMFG group companies.

 

Under the agreement, SMBC ( China ) will utilize the group’s broad network to conduct company finder services (business matching services). Meanwhile, JRI and JRI ( Shanghai ) Consulting will conduct consulting and promotion services to attract Japanese companies.

 

Moving forward, by further strengthening its relationship with the Tianjin City and the Tianjin Eco-City, SMBC will be able to enhance its services to Japanese customers entering the region. Meanwhile, JRI will actively promote launching of environmental and energy projects not just in the Tianjin Eco-City but also throughout China .

 

 

About the Tianjin Eco-City

 

The Tianjin Eco-City is China ’s first large-scale eco-city project. The project’s aim is to build an advanced city in the Tianjin Binhai New Area, at a 30 km² site located north of the Tianjin Economic Technological Development Area, under the concept of environmentally friendly living, energy saving, and efficient recycling. The project plan calls for a population of 350,000 by 2020. The project is expected to become the model to follow for other eco-city development projects in China .

 

The project is a collaborative project between the governments of China and Singapore . The Administrative Committee is the government organization established to manage the project.
