Commencement of Operation of Subsidiary Bank in Russia

 

TOKYO, 30 November 2009 --- Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC, President: Masayuki Oku) announced today ZAO Sumitomo Mitsui Rus Bank (“SMBCR Bank”), its subsidiary bank established in Moscow, the Russian Federation, will commence operation on December 1, 2009.

 

The commencement of operation by SMBCR Bank will enhance the commercial banking services available to SMBC group customers planning to establish or expand business in the Russian Federation .

 

The Russian Federation is the largest country in the world, by land mass, with abundant natural resources. It has the potential to become a major consumer country and is one of SMBC group’s important overseas markets. SMBC has been establishing a global network, including Europe, Middle East and Africa , over the years, and the addition of SMBCR Bank will enhance its global presence and capability to develop and deliver superior products and services.
