Approval Received for Establishment of Subsidiary Bank in Malaysia

TOKYO, Jun 18, 2010 --- Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC, President: Masayuki Oku) received on June 17, 2010, the approval to establish a wholly-owned subsidiary in Malaysia from Bank Negara Malaysia. The subsidiary will commence operations in the first half of next year subject to SMBC obtaining the approval of Japanese regulatory authorities.

The establishment of the subsidiary will enable SMBC to deliver full banking services in Malaysia, another step in its ongoing efforts to offer more comprehensive services to its customers in Malaysia.
