Name Revision and Commencement of New Securities Business Activities of

SMBC Capital Markets Limited, Wholly Owned Subsidiary of

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation

 

 

 

TOKYO, September 17, 2010 --- Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (President: Masayuki Oku, hereinafter “SMBC”) hereby announces that SMBC Capital Markets Limited (President: Antony Yates, hereinafter “CM(LN)”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of SMBC incorporated in the UK, has decided to change its name as described below and to enter into a business cooperation agreement with Nikko Cordial Securities Inc. (President: Eiji Watanabe, hereinafter “Nikko Cordial”), also a wholly-owned subsidiary of SMBC, to cover certain securities related activities in the UK. 

 

The new agreement will promote and strengthen the close collaboration between Nikko Cordial, the core entity of SMBC’s securities business, and CM(LN), the core entity of SMBC’s derivatives business in Europe. CM(LN) will change its name to SMBC Nikko Capital Markets Limited to reflect the importance of the combination of the SMBC and Nikko brands in the provision of high quality financial services to their clients.

2.       Securities Business conducted by SMBC Nikko Capital Markets Limited

 

SMBC Nikko Capital Markets Limited will start the following new securities business activities in the UK on October 1, 2010, under the business cooperation agreement with Nikko Cordial

 

 

 

 

(1)         Underwriting of bonds mainly under Medium Term Note programmes with distribution by Nikko Cordial

(2)         Arrangement of Samurai bonds underwritten by Nikko Cordial

(3)         Broking of Japanese stocks

(4)         Broking of bonds

(5)         M&A advisory services

  and other securities business activities

 

SMBC Nikko Capital Markets Limited will consider further expansion of its securities business activities in the future as part of the ongoing collaboration with Nikko Cordial.
