Commencement of Operation of Chonburi Exchange Office
TOKYO, May 30, 2013 --- Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC,
President: Takeshi Kunibe) announced the commencement
of business today, May 30, 2013, of its Chonburi
Exchange Office in the Kingdom
of Thailand. SMBC is the
only Japanese bank to open an office in Thailand
outside Bangkok.
Thailand has been developing as a
major manufacturing hub and its economy is expected to grow further on the back
of trade liberalization within ASEAN and as a driver of growth in the Greater
Mekong Sub-Region, which also includes such countries as Vietnam, Myanmar,
and Cambodia.
The Chonburi Province has been attracting leading Japanese and
other foreign manufacturers in recent years thanks to Laem Chabang Port,
the largest trading port in Thailand.
The opening of Chonburi Exchange Office will enable
us to tailor our response to the financial needs of our clients in Southeast Thailand and enhance our capability to offer
financial solutions in the Greater Mekong Sub-Region.
