to Jointly Develop Professional Education Programs

 

 

TOKYO, December 18, 2013-- Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC, President: Takeshi Kunibe) today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) to jointly develop professional education programs with the Myanmar Banks Association (MBA, Chairman: U Thein Tun) on December 17.

 

The MBA, comprising of 25 local banks in Myanmar, was established to promote the development of the banking sector in Myanmar. Recently, Myanmar has been experiencing rapid economic development and inflow of foreign investments, and there is increasing expectations on the banking sector and financial markets in Myanmar to support its economic growth. The MBA and SMBC entered into the MOU because both parties agree that this can be achieved through the development of human resources in the banking and financial sector.

 

Under the MOU, the MBA and SMBC plan to hold training sessions and seminars for bank officers in Myanmar. Through this collaboration, we hope to contribute to the development of the financial markets in Myanmar, as well as to enhance the economic partnership between Myanmar and Japan.
