Commencement of Operations of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Europe Limited Dublin branch

TOKYO, January 15, 2014 --- Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC, President: Takeshi Kunibe) announced today that its wholly-owned subsidiary Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Europe Limited (SMBCE, Chief Executive Officer: Masahiko Oshima) has opened a Branch in Dublin, the Republic of Ireland. The opening of the Dublin Branch is part of SMBCE’s initiatives to further strengthen its network in Europe.

The subsidiaries and affiliates of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group operating in the Republic of Ireland include Sumitomo Mitsui Finance Dublin Limited, JRI America, Inc. and SMBC Aviation Capital Limited, the aircraft leasing business arm of the Group. SMBC’s presence in the Republic of Ireland has been expanded through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) with Industrial Development Agency Ireland (IDA Ireland) on October 17, 2012, the first MOU between IDA Ireland and a Japanese bank.

The opening of SMBCE Dublin Branch will enable SMBC to further expand its presence in the Republic of Ireland and enhance its capabilities to deliver services to its clients, particularly those in the aircraft finance sector by leveraging the expertise of SMBC Aviation Capital Limited.
