Operational Commencement of Prague Branch of
Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Europe Limited
TOKYO, June 2, 2014 --- Sumitomo
Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC, President and CEO: Takeshi Kunibe) announced
today that its wholly-owned subsidiary Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Europe
Limited (SMBCE, Chief Executive Officer: Masahiko Oshima) has opened a branch in
Prague, Czech Republic. The opening of the Prague
Branch is part of SMBCE’s initiatives to further strengthen its network in Europe.
The Czech
Republic and other countries of Central Eastern Europe are important manufacturing bases
for Japanese, Western and Asian manufacturers. The region, in recent years, has
also been attracting foreign direct investment in natural resources projects,
including coal and shale gas, and transport and other social infrastructure
projects, and further economic growth can be expected.
The opening of Prague Branch will enable SMBC
group to better meet the diverse needs of clients operating in the region through the
enhanced branch network and product
offering, including trade finance.
